Pronunciation and Fundamental Knowledge in Language Learning
Pronunciation is one of the fundamental aspects of language learning in general, and specifically in learning English. Building a strong foundation in pronunciation takes time and requires solid practice. When we pronounce words correctly, we can accurately understand what others say, and speaking with proper pronunciation boosts our confidence in communication. However, how can we know if we are pronouncing correctly while learning?
Based on my learning experience, I have created several Communities on ELSA with different learning paths to help address this challenge:
Link | Name | Quantity | Description |
---|
| 3000 Oxford words | 3000 | According to Oxford's official list, these are the 3000 most important words that are frequently used in daily life. If you can master these 3000 words, you will be able to have fluent conversations. |
| 3000 Oxford words with examples | 6000 | Similar to the previous list, but it includes example sentences, which makes it more challenging. Reading complete sentences can be difficult compared to reading individual words, so I recommend this set for more advanced learners. |
| 2000 Advanced Oxford words | 2000 | This list consists of 2000 words from Oxford, based on their popularity in everyday life. |
| 600 TOEIC words | 600 | A set of words for those who are preparing for the TOEIC exam. |
| 1000 common phrases | 1000 | In conversations, we don't speak word by word. After practicing these 1000 common phrases for communication, you will feel confident in chatting with others on platforms like Omegle. |
| 1000 simple phrases | 1000 | Similar to the previous set, but with phrases from a different source. |
| IPA pronunciation | Not defined | I encountered difficulties with pronouncing certain sounds like /dʒ/, /ð/, or /tʃ/. Therefore, I created this set to focus on practicing individual IPA sounds. |
| Famous songs | Not defined | A collection of famous songs on YouTube. |
| Famous speeches | Not defined | A selection of famous speeches that I use for shadowing practice. |
Currently, the 'song' community and sorting by 'cefr' are not updated but will be updated in the near future.
